Please note this is from my own personal experience and as with everything there is no right or wrong way to do things! I am still new to this industry and continuously learning!<\/p>\n<h4>What are stationery?<\/h4>\n<p>Stationery products can vary but typically it includes greeting cards, bespoke invitations, art-prints, patches, pins, notebooks and calendars! &nbsp;Brands such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperchase.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paperchase<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carolinegardner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caroline Gardener<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/riflepaperco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rifle Paper Co<\/a> are great examples of successful stationery business! One thing most have in common is that they all first start out with creating greeting cards! Trend Research<\/h3>\n<p>Before launching your career as a greeting cards designer, My top advice is to attend trade shows in your area, this will help to understand more about the market trends.<\/p>\n<p>I love <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topdrawer.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TopDrawer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.springfair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SpringFair<\/a> in the UK. You will be creativity inspired and the best way to learn is to see what your competitors are doing and work on finding your unique selling point.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" title=\"spring_fair\" data-id=\"10663\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/spring_fair.jpg?x78739&amp;x78739&amp;x92671&amp;x92671\" style=\"\" scale=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Trend presentation at Spring Fair 2019<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>2. Work in ranges\/collections<\/h3>\n<p>Avoid doing individual cards instead try to design at least &nbsp;6 to max 12 card for each collection! Work in ranges also known as collections. &nbsp;Have a set of 6 &#8211; 12 card range\/collection which when displayed along side each other on a shop display are unified, consistent in style, and look good together. For example if you are creating floral wedding cards, then design at least 6 or maximum 12 different wedding cards using a floral theme.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"970\" title=\"mothers-day\" data-id=\"10667\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mothers-day.jpg?x78739&amp;x78739&amp;x92671&amp;x92671\" style=\"\" scale=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Mothers Day Collection<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>3. Create for multiple occasions<\/h3>\n<p>Before approaching any shops or publishers and trade fairs, create at least a minimum 50 designs for multiple occasions. Buyers want to be able to have the choice of selecting cards that appeal to their audience! Please try to enjoy the process, take your time to build up your collections!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1333\" title=\"collections\" data-id=\"10666\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/collections.jpg?x78739&amp;x78739&amp;x92671&amp;x92671\" style=\"\" scale=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Wedding Collections<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1333\" title=\"shumi_\" data-id=\"10670\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/shumi_.jpg?x78739&amp;x78739&amp;x92671&amp;x92671\" style=\"\" scale=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Local Market Arts Fairs<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1333\" title=\"factory_shop\" data-id=\"10658\" src=\"https:\/\/yesimadesigner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/factory_shop.jpg?x78739&amp;x78739&amp;x92671&amp;x92671\" style=\"\" scale=\"0\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Sell at Local shops<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>4. Print in small quantity<\/h3>\n<p>Avoid printing in large quantities, instead work with local printers or online print services to test the quality (most provide sample prints so you can learn more on paper stock and quality)! For greeting cards , wrapping paper and art print I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.printed.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Printed.com<\/a> ! To print your illustrations on products such as pocket mirrors, notebooks and stickers I recommend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awesomemerchandise.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Awesome Merchandise<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h3>5. Local art fairs and markets<\/h3>\n<p>Once you have enough designs, try to take part in local art fairs and markets to get an idea on what sells. It is a lot cheaper than attending big trade fairs! Best way to find local markets is probably through instagram or facebook!I also follow organisations such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justacard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Just A Card<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greetingcardassociation.org.uk\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greeting Card Association <\/a>that provides useful resources for greeting card designers!<\/p>\n<h3>6. Sell online<\/h3>\n<p>If you are starting out and don&#8217;t want to deal with printing and posting costs! or perhaps you are not confident yet to do trade fairs and markets then I highly recommend to use your designs on POD sites such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thortful.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thorful<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redbubble.com\/explore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Redbubble <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/society6.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Society6<\/a>, again this is a good way to test your designs and see which ones are most sellable before printing them yourself or approaching card Publishers!!<\/p>\n<h3>7.
